Conditionals - Serbian Grammar

In Serbian grammar, the conditional is used to express possible or hypothetical situations. There are three types of conditionals: first, second, and third conditional.

The first conditional is used to talk about possible future events or actions. It is formed by combining the present tense in the main clause with the present tense in the subordinate clause. For example, “Ako budem imao vremena, posetiću te” means “If I have time, I will visit you.”

The second conditional is used to express hypothetical or unreal situations in the present or future. It is formed by combining the past tense in the main clause with the present tense in the subordinate clause. For example, “Da imam novca, putovao bih svetom” means “If I had money, I would travel the world.”

The third conditional is used to talk about hypothetical or unreal situations in the past. It is formed by combining the past perfect tense in the main clause with the past tense in the subordinate clause. For example, “Da sam imao šansu, odabrao bih drugačije” means “If I had had a chance, I would have chosen differently.”

Understanding and correctly using the conditionals in Serbian grammar is essential for expressing possibilities, hypothetical situations, and unreal conditions.
