Talkpal AI Safety and Crisis Response
Last updated August 6, 2026
Talkpal is an AI language-learning product. Every conversation partner in Talkpal is generated by artificial intelligence — you are never talking to a person, and no one reviews conversations in real time. Talkpal is not a medical, counselling or crisis service and must not be relied on in an emergency.
Talkpal is intended for users aged 18 and over, and our Terms do not permit anyone under 18 to use the Services. AI conversation features may not be suitable for all minors.
Our suicide and self-harm protocol. Across all conversational features and all supported languages, Talkpal’s AI partners are instructed:
- never to produce content that encourages, instructs on or describes methods of suicide or self-harm — in any mode, in any language, and regardless of any character, persona, roleplay or debate that is active;
- where a user mentions suicide or self-harm, to leave the exercise and any persona immediately, respond briefly and without judgement in the user’s own language, state that they are an AI and cannot help in a crisis, and direct the user to crisis support resources.
Character, scenario and debate instructions are configured not to override these rules.
Crisis support. findahelpline.com lists free, verified helplines in more than 175 countries. In the United States, call or text 988. In the UK and Ireland, call 116 123. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.
What this does not do. Talkpal does not monitor conversations in real time, cannot contact emergency services or anyone else on your behalf, cannot guarantee that its AI recognizes every expression of distress, and is not a substitute for professional care.
