Tenses - Urdu Grammar

The concept of tenses in Urdu grammar plays a crucial role in understanding the time frame in which an action takes place. Tenses specify whether the action has already occurred, is happening presently, or will occur in the future.

There are three primary tenses in Urdu grammar: past tense (ماضی), present tense (حال), and future tense (مستقبل). Each tense has various forms depending on the number, gender, and person of the subject.

To form the past tense, the verb undergoes conjugation according to the subject’s gender, number, and person. It indicates an action that has already taken place.

The present tense, on the other hand, represents an ongoing action or a habitual activity. Again, the verb is conjugated to match the subject, taking into account gender, number, and person.

The future tense indicates an action that is yet to happen. It is formed by adding appropriate words before the verb to specify the time of occurrence.

Understanding the theory of tenses is crucial for effective communication in Urdu, as it provides clarity in conveying the time frame of actions. Mastery of the tenses allows learners to express themselves accurately and proficiently in the Urdu language.
