Articles - Urdu Grammar

In Urdu grammar, articles play an important role in sentence formation and comprehension. Similar to English, Urdu also has definite and indefinite articles.

The definite article in Urdu is “ال” which is equivalent to “the” in English. It is used before a noun to refer to a specific item or person. For example, “الکتاب” means “the book” and “اللومڑی” means “the fox”.

The indefinite article in Urdu is “ایک” which is equivalent to “a” or “an” in English. It is used before a noun to refer to any item or person of the same kind. For example, “ایک کتاب” means “a book” and “ایک لومڑی” means “a fox”.

Articles in Urdu also have gender and number variations. The definite article “ال” changes to “المذکر” for masculine nouns, “المؤنث” for feminine nouns, and “الجمع” for plural nouns. Similarly, the indefinite article “ایک” changes to “اِکرا” for masculine nouns, “کوئی” for feminine nouns, and “کچھ” for plural nouns.

Understanding articles in Urdu grammar is essential for constructing grammatically correct sentences and effectively communicating in Urdu language.
