Participles in Polish grammar are verb forms used to modify nouns and to participate in constructing compound tenses and the passive voice. Participles are valuable because they can convey a significant amount of information in a single word. They are divided into active adjectival (participium praesens activum), passive adjectival (participium praesens passivum), past adjectival (participium perfecti passivi) and adverbial (gerundium) participles.
