Mixed conditionals are a combination of two different types of conditional sentences, usually the second and third conditionals. They are used to express a hypothetical or unreal situation in the past and its possible effect on the present, or a hypothetical situation in the present and its possible effect on the past. These types of conditionals help us to talk about situations that didn’t happen, but we can imagine what the consequences would have been if they had.
