Tenses - Armenian Grammar

Tense theory in Armenian grammar plays a significant role in understanding and using the language effectively. Armenian, like many other languages, has several tenses that indicate the time of an action or state of being.

One of the main tenses in Armenian is the Present tense, which is used to describe ongoing actions or states happening at the current moment. The Present tense is formed by attaching specific suffixes to the verb root.

Another important tense is the Past tense, which is used to convey actions or states that have already happened in the past. The Past tense is formed by adding different endings to the verb stem, depending on the verb class.

The Future tense, as the name suggests, is used to express actions or states that will happen in the future. Armenian has two ways of expressing the Future tense – by using specific verb suffixes or using the auxiliary verb “կիսեմ” (kisem).
