In Kazakh grammar, prepositions are classified into several categories. The first category consists of simple prepositions, which include words like ‘туралы’ (about), ‘карап’ (look at), and ‘ылғарымен’ (with). These prepositions are followed by nouns or pronouns in the genitive case.

The second category comprises compound prepositions, which are formed by combining simple prepositions with suffixes or postpositions. For example, ‘ортаңғы’ (between), ‘орналасумен’ (among), and ‘азараба’ (by means of).

Furthermore, there are prepositions that require specific cases. Some prepositions require the ablative case, such as ‘аудандан’ (from the city), while others require the dative case, such as ‘бірге’ (together with).
