Language: Perfect Progressive

In Armenian grammar, the Perfect Progressive theory is a fundamental aspect of understanding verb tenses and the concept of ongoing actions in the past, present, and future. The Perfect Progressive combines elements of the Perfect and Progressive tenses to express the continuous nature of an action that began in the past, is currently happening, and is expected to continue in the future.

To form the Perfect Progressive tense, we use the auxiliary verb “եմ” (em) in the present tense, followed by the main verb in its Progressive form using the suffix “ում” (um) and the Perfect form using the suffix “ել, վայ, այ, եմ” (el, vay, ay, em). This formation helps convey the idea of an ongoing action that has been happening and will continue to happen.

For example:
– ես աշխատում եմ (es ashtum em) – I have been working.
– նրանք գրանցվում են (nrank grancvum en) – They have been registering.

By understanding and using the Perfect Progressive tense correctly, Armenian learners can accurately express ongoing actions and convey the specific duration and continuity of those actions in the past, present, and future.
