Thai nouns are typically non-inflective, meaning they do not change form to indicate gender, number, or case. However, classifiers or measure words are used to quantify nouns when specifying quantity or indicating their measure. These classifiers are used depending on the noun’s class and shape. For example, when counting objects, the classifier “geun” is used for most objects, while “kuen” is used for people.
Additionally, Thai nouns do not have grammatical gender. Instead, gender is indicated through the use of personal pronouns or specific words that denote gender. For example, “phuak phi” refers to a group of females, whereas “phuak phu ying” refers to a group of males.
