Conditionals - Azerbaijani Grammar

In Azerbaijani grammar, conditionals refer to a type of sentence or clause that expresses a hypothetical situation and its hypothetical consequence. There are three main types of conditional sentences in Azerbaijani: Type 0, Type 1, and Type 2.

Type 0 conditionals express general truths or facts. These sentences have two clauses, the “if” clause, which states the condition, and the main clause which states the consequence. Both clauses are in the present simple tense. For example, “If it rains, the streets get wet.”

Type 1 conditionals express a probable or likely condition and its consequence. The “if” clause is in the present simple tense, while the main clause is in the future simple tense. For example, “If she studies hard, she will pass the exam.”

Type 2 conditionals express an unlikely or contrary-to-fact condition and its consequence. The “if” clause is in the past simple tense, while the main clause is in the conditional form. For example, “If I had money, I would buy a car.”
