Adjectives - Indonesian Grammar

In Indonesian grammar, adjectives are classified as the second order modifier in a sentence. Adjectives are used to describe or modify nouns to provide more information about their qualities, attributes, or states. Adjectives in Indonesian typically follow the noun they modify, and agreement in number and definiteness is not required.

There are two types of adjectives in Indonesian: qualitative adjectives and classifying adjectives. Qualitative adjectives describe the quality or attribute of a noun, such as besar (big) or cantik (beautiful). Classifying adjectives, on the other hand, categorize or classify nouns into specific groups, such as politik (political) or biologi (biological).

Adjectives in Indonesian can also be modified to indicate the degree or intensity of the quality they describe. The most common way to do this is by adding the prefix “ter-” or “paling” before the base form of the adjective. For example, “terbesar” means the biggest, and “paling cantik” means the most beautiful.

Overall, understanding the theory of adjectives in Indonesian grammar is crucial for learners to accurately describe and differentiate various qualities, attributes, or states of nouns in the Indonesian language.
