Participle Clause Exercises For French Grammar

Identifying language constructs through grammar exercise

In French grammar, a Participle Clause is a dependent clause that uses a present or past participle. They are used to express simultaneous or consecutive actions, or to give additional information about the subject of the sentence. Present participles are formed by taking the verb’s nous form in the present tense, dropping the -ons ending, and adding -ant. Past participles are formed differently depending on the verb group:

-er verbs take -é, -ir verbs take -i, and -re verbs take -u.
