In Nepali grammar, the indefinite article has no direct equivalent like in English i.e. “a” or “an” before a noun. However, the concept of “one” or “a certain” can fulfill the function of indefinite articles when necessary. The word for “a” or “one” in Nepali is “एक” (ek). It is often used before a noun when the speaker does not want to specify a particular identity of the noun or referring to a separate entity.
