Countable nouns in Thai grammar, also known as “khruang prathum”, are nouns that can be counted. As in English, count nouns in Thai can be modified by numerals and can take both singular and plural forms. However, unlike English, singular nouns in Thai do not require an article before the noun. Furthermore, in Thai, the counter word, or “lek”, is used after the noun to specify the type of object being counted. The concept of countable nouns is a vital aspect of mastering Thai grammar and vocabulary.
