Indirect speech, or “discours indirect,” is an important aspect of French grammar that allows us to report what someone has said without directly quoting them. In indirect speech, the original speaker’s words are often modified to fit the grammatical structure of the sentence, and verb tenses may change. To form indirect speech in French, we typically use the conjunction “que” to introduce the reported speech, and make necessary adjustments to the verb tense and pronouns.
